Blog entry ~50% too wide
Blog entry ~50% too wide

Hello :)

I've just created a blog entry and it is displayed ~50% too wide for the screen. A random sample of threads, new posts listing and the advanced search page are displayed at the correct width.

Firefox 3.6.12 on Slackware64 13.1 with a 1280x1024 screen.

Best

Charles

I have a similar problem with some of my blog entries. I have noticed that, if there's blocks of code or images in the blog, the blocks of code and images tend to stretch the blog entry into oblivion and force you to scroll back and forth to read the blog. This is especially a problem on my 1024x600 Acer Aspire One, and also a problem on my 1024x768 HP desktop monitor.

What browser are you using?

I can reproduce your bug in Konqueror 3.5.2, but not in Firefox 1.5.0.12 & usually in Opera; the problem is caused by the long line in the 4th "Code:" block -- fold it & the problem will disappear.

I have been fighting this for years on LQ & not just in blogs, long lines in "Code:" blocks cause this problem anywhere on the site. I speculate that it's a CSS thing & a Konqueror quirk.

If the problem problem persists in Konqueror 4.4+, or exists in some other browser, then it's time to examine the causes.

Thanks Kenny_Strawn and archtoad6 :)

As per the OP the problem was seen in Firefox 3.6.12. It is also seen using SeaMonkey 2.0.10 and Opera 10.63.

Sorry about missing your browser info. in the OP, & thanks for the add'l browser info.

Do both of you, as I do, see the problem in the main fora?

No problem :)

No; in the main fora, CODE boxes with text that is too wide to fit on the screen get horizontal scroll bars. Example from this LQ post

I also get the problem in Chromium (that's what I'm using right now) and have no idea just what is causing it.

I've updated the code tags in the blogging system to be inline with what's in the main forum. Thanks for the bug report.

For me this problem occurs while forming a new Private Message. I can't attach the screen shot here!

I know. Same here: Whenever I send a new PM, I have to scroll back and forth.

LOL! I also noticed that this very bug report is very wide for my screen resolution.

Upgraded to SimplyMEPIS 8.0.12 / KDE 3.5.10 / Konqueror 3.5.9
Still seeing the original problem, as well as my long standing one in the main fora:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ommand-362506/

This leads me to believe that I am not really seeing the same problem, but rather another example of the Konqueror 3.5.x bad interaction w/ LQ that has been plaguing me for years. (BTW, this is one of the 2 or 3 core issues that keep me from giving up Opera completely.)

For me, (1) the New PM page is insanely wide, and (2) this very page is 25% wider than it should be.

This page and archtoad's blog looks absolutely normal to me but the PM's problems exist! I did attach the screenshot anyway.

Yeah, I think the issue is a poor screen resolution detection. I have only a 1024x600 resolution, so that's why my perception of this page is that it's too wide. You probably think it's normal because you have a high screen resolution.

I think it would be better if LQ autodetected how high your screen resolution is and adjusted the resolution of the page accordingly.

How should I find my screen resolution? Any ideas? Linux Mint Fluxbox.

Usually the screenshots you posted will tell you.

And it's telling me 1280x1024.

I'm running 1440 x 900 -- found in the KDE (3.5.10) Control Center -- so I don't thinks it's a screen res. prob.

Anisha, are you running KDE, Gnome, or something else?
