xlib window within a window

Hi, I'm creating a X window inside my SDL application for playing video via mplayer. The problem I'm having is that I want to make the SDL window appear "on-top" of the subwindow playing the video sometimes. I've tried XLowerWindow() but it won't do anything to the subwindow. Is there anyway I can hide the window without destroying it?

else:

does anyone know of a way I can split mplayer away from the subwindow into its own window, then replace it back into my subwindow?

I most appreciate it.

XMapWindow() and XUnmapWindow() seem to do the trick (makes the window disappear and reappear). However, it seems when I use vfork() and execl() to mplayer, the wid for my window pointer increments. Anyone know how I can preserve the window pointer accross fork()?

okay, the answer to this puzzle is, use fork() not vfork() if you want variables to remain the same across processes.

anyone know if there is a way to force a program to take a certain wid?

thanks again.
