xampp and php

Hi ;
I got a problem with running php scripts with xampp.
I tried both linux and windows xampp......
I dont know what is the real problem if there is a place that I should copy the script can you please tell me...
echo ("hello world!!!");
this is the script that I am trying to run
both in linux and windows the explorer and the firefox gives the same reaction (a blank page)
please help

Are you saving your file as .php?

Usually you have to save the file with ".php" extension in the directory "htdocs".

thank you fro your reply the problem is solved... The name I was looking for was htdocs...
