wiki on standard (ftp upload) web site ?
Hi, I've played with wiki's a bit, and would like to implement on my own web site. I got a phpwiki going at home on linux. However, my public home page is hosted on a Bigpond account, using IIS.
From what I can tell, Bigpond do not support anyway that I could implement a wiki on the site. Can anybody think of a way to implement a wiki on a bog standard web hosting site where page uploads are done via ftp ? |
Upload with ftp... that's going to be a hard wiki to use, and very hard to manage. not to metion the security risks. If you want to implement a wiki, you'd have to get another hosting company that gives you database and JSP/PHP.
I just made a wiki with MySQL and JPS, it's hosted by Tomcat on a dedicated server. Check my signature. |
I suppose a single user wiki is what I am really after. So my ftp upload details could become the wiki logon details.
Perhaps my standard web site could host a java applet that reads .csv or html table data from the web site, and formats the output before displaying to the user. In terms of security: if the web site doesn't allow directoy browsing anyway, and my links / wiki info were stored in long folder and file names, then I can't see how someone would be able to access them if the applet asked for user/pass before showing any content ? |
