why my application ignores SISPIPE generated by me using kill , but

my application has following lines

signal(SIGPIPE, SIG_IGN);

when i generate the SIGPIPE signal using kill -13 pid my application is ignoring the signal.

but it is giving segmentation fault when it recieves SIGPIPE signal generated by a broken pipe when send function is called.

why is this happenning ? and how can i avoid this.

the place where i get segmentation fault is

socketDoOutput (){
bytes = sendto(sp->sock, buf, toWrite, 0,
(struct sockaddr *) &server, sizeof(server))
}

error message:

segementation fault
recieved signal SIGPIPE , broken pipe
in _kernal_syscall ()
called by socketDoOutput ()
