What open source projects could use novice programmers?

I'm doing a Computer Science degree and am wondering where to find open source projects that need volunteers. There must be some grunt-work that would be a way to get a taste of working in a group. Where do I look?

Actually, as an addendum, if you know (or want to learn) Python and are interested in IRC bots at all, check out Supybot, a python IRC bot that I work on. Developing new plugins for it is pretty easy and well-documented, and we can always use more plugins!
