Exclamation Unable to record or play a wav file using ALSA

Hello,
I tried recording audio into a buffer and playing from a buffer using Paul davis tutorial but am unable to play or record audio into or from the buffer. I also made some changes highlighted in other links and the program executes without any error . But recording or playback is not possible . I also tried recording with "arecord" utility in alsa but was unable to do so . If someone knows anything in this regard links or sources please inform it to me.

Regards,
S.Suresh stephen
