To create a pop up in linux when a file is created
Hi Sir,
I have a requirement , that is
I used to run big simulations in solvers.I used to submit say file name 'xyz.dat'...So Once a simulation is run ,a solution folder is created with xyz.aqs in the folder where we have submitted the file 'xyz.dat'.
I would like to get a notification such as pop up from linux when the solution is just written on system. How it could be done.
Distribution: Debian testing 64bit at home, EL5 32/64bit at work.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I have been using a program called notify-send in scripts. Most commonly like so:
Code:
notify-send -u critical -t 0 'The process is DONE!' 'Check /mnt/BACKUPS/0day for a list of new items' | sndfile-play /usr/share/sounds/gnome/default/alerts/bark.ogg
I also enjoy having the desktop notification "bark" at me as well; thus, the addition of the pipe to sndfile-play and a moment of happy recollection of a puppy named Fluffy.
notify-send is found in the libnotify (rpm) or libnotify-bin (deb) package.
Yours with fond regards,
