tar library?

Hi!

I'm doing a GUI-tar application in C/C++ using QT to create and extract tar files.
But instead of doing a system call to tar i wonder if there is a
tar library that i can include? so i for example just can call a tar function to extract
a tar file?

Any help is welcome =) Cheers!

No, the tar program is complete within itself. There is no library of tar routines.

You might want to check out what a tar file looks like with a text editor.... they aren't all that hard to put together. Also, you do have the source code for tar (or at least, you could download it) and it certainly wouldn't be impossible to use it.

There is a library for manipulating tar files, although I don't think GNU tar uses it: http://www-dev.cites.uiuc.edu/libtar/
