Systems programming

Hi all,

I am an amateur programmer who has built a few tools/applications for my own personal use and for others to use. My question is, I would like to eventually transition into the realm of systems programming(device drivers, filesystems, etc), and am seeking advice on the best way to get started on this path. I am already somewhat familiar with the simpler concepts of C and would like to continue in that language.

Thanks in advance.

I kind of like the "Operating Systems" book by Tanenbaum & Woodhull. It is an in-depth analysis of the MINIX OS with accompanying code and MINIX cd so you can learn by hacking/experimenting.

Re: Systems programming

Thanks for the advice. I already have "The C Programming Language" by Kernighan and Ritchie and also "Operating Systems: Design and Implementation" by Tannenbaum and Woodhull. I just haven't stepped off into the second one yet. I will also check out kernelnewbies.org.

Thanks again,
