Well, I do like the article, and ESR is a good writer (read: The Cathedral and The Bazaar), but the first 2 of 3 posts (the two identical ones) were a complete mistake - it's too bad there's no way to delete your own posts.

You should use c. And whatever language your coworker is using...

ah, the weekly "best starting language" thread..

as i said last week, id suggest c, or java to start out. depending on if you want to get in object oriented stuff or not. c++ is also a good choice as well as perl, php, python, bash scripting, etc etc etc..

try all of them and then pick the one you understand the fastest... then move on to another when you get bored..
