suggestion reg. SNMP

I want to make an application in Qt/C++ for network monitoring.
Please suggest some reference books/sites/programming egs which can be helpful.
please don't suggest any tool which is actually a network analyser like ethreal, ipaudit
I want to obtain information like How much bandwidth is being used, operational state of links, bottlenecks

Can u plz suggest some reference which illustrates how to use SNMP?
