SQL exception

Hi there
I am trying to a connect to a server using rmi but it complains that there no sql server listening.
Quote:
VideoDataAccessor: Failed to get connectionjava.sql.SQLException: Cannot connect to MySQL server on bla.bla.bla.bla:3306. Is there a MySQL server running on the machine/port you are trying to connect to?
I know that there is an sql server on the machine as soon as I have been instructed to connect to that port number(3306), but I can not understand why I get this exception. I also have insured that in my properties file I have inserted valid user-name password.
Any help?

If you're sure that MySQL us running (ie you can connect to it locally), have you checked whether it's configured to run only locally (listening to a socket) rather than allowing network connections to a port? Have a look at the startup command and the my.cnf file. The startup command may use --skip-networking or the config file may have a line that says skip-networking

This is from my.cnf file. I didn't it touch so not to make any damage.

Quote:
# Instead of skip-networking the default is now to listen only on
# localhost which is more compatible and is not less secure.
bind-address = 127.0.0.1
Do you believe that I have to modify it?

It's worth commenting it out and re-starting MySQL to see if that stops the error occurring. I'm still using skip-networking so I'm not familiar with it, but I'd suggest checking the MySQL docs to see how it's recommended to set it up.
