SNMP support (Scotty?) in Tcl on Debian
Not sure whether I should post this in the programming forum or in Debian...
I need to talk to some SNMP devices. About once per second I must retrieve about 10 values from each device. Eventually these values must be piped into a MySQL database where other program components can access them and do something with them.
The language I speak and have used for this project so far are PHP, Bash and Tcl.
In PHP the support for SNMP seems to be limited an immature. In Bash I could use net-SNMP which is really very powerful, but it is a bit clumsy to process the data. I would need string and array functions and Bash does not offer the best tools for that, not to mention floating point processing.
My preference would be to use Tcl, and it seems that SMNP extensions for Tcl are offered in Scotty. I have not been able to find a Debian package for Scotty. I can find the source, and compile manually, but I try to avoid that on a Debian system as much as possible. ANyone have seen traces of SNMP for Tcl on Debian?
I know Perl is another option, but I don't speak Perl and if I can avoid the additional effort to learn Yet Another Language I do.
