Shared Libraries

Is it possible to create two shared libraries that export identical functions, but only one is loaded into the main program at a time?

In other words, can I make a runtime selection of the library? (Say, to have a "test" plugin and use it instead of the real thing, or load a "simulated" I/O environment?)

Yes, you can. Using standard method of handling shared libraries in Linux. Function is accessible only if you open the library and make right dlsym (passing function name to find it).

Cool. Come to think of it, I suppose this is how xmms handles input/output (and other) plugins.
