Setting the path variable for Java Comp.

Last April I had trouble setting the path variable for the Java compiler
in Fedora Core 1. Looking_Lost showed me the correct procedure.
I'm using Fedora Core 2 now, and the path variable is not working.
Is this a bug, or am I still doing something wrong?
I created a J-Compiler directory -- /home/lmellen/J-Compiler -- and
opened and stored the compiler there. I created a Java directory for
creating and compiling java exercises.
If I type /home/lmellen/J-Compiler/j2sdk1.4.2_04/bin/javac, it works
fine. The same with java. In .bash_profile I put:
"export PATH=/home/lmellen/J-Compiler/j2sdk1.4.2_04/bin:$PATH"
This worked fine for Fedora Core 1, but all I get in Fedora Core 2 are
command not found errors. If anybody knows what's wrong, please
reply!!! Thanks in advance -- Larry
