so i won't be able to get into opengl later. unfortunately i have an ati card with bad linux support, does anyone have experience curing this problem?
I do...

1. If you have the ATI proprietary driver installed, remove it.

2. Update X.org to 6.9.0 or 7.0 (they are the same thing packaged differently).

3. Update kernel if necessary (I think the minimum required is 2.6.13 but I'm not sure. I use 2.6.15). Make sure that DRM support for Radeon cards is enabled in the kernel.

4. Run X -configure as root to generate new config file. Copy the Device section of this new file into your old xorg.conf, replacing the old Device section that is there.

5. In the Device section of the config file, change Driver to "radeon" ("ati" is the 2D-only driver). You can also set the "AGPMode" option to "8" and "EnablePageFlip" to "1". Don't change other options as the driver seems to be unstable with non-default settings.

6. If you don't have DRI section in the config file, add it:
Code:
Section "DRI"
        Mode 0666
EndSection
7. Start X, run some 3D application, and enjoy!

Hi, since this thread got resurrected, it reminded me to finally post that old Borland Makefile. I still don't have time to write a full Borland tutorial, and I've forgotten most of what I knew anyways, but it seems a few others have sprung up since last time I checked. I've placed links to them on that page.
