scripting guru wanted (low pay, actually no pay) but emotionally rewarding)

I have constructed a network bridge. You can see the code here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...45#post1756545 and I would like to make it permanent (not lost on restart). There is a suggested scipt here http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-B...O-3.html#ss3.1 near the bottom but this one seems to contain some things I dont need. Can someone who knows bothe Suse and scripting suggest a script and where and how to place it. I tried myself an really screwed things up.

As long as your title was in jest, this thread can stay open. Please do not offer our members money for work - LQ is not a jobs site.

Well I can say yes in fact that it was totally in jest but it seems to have gone over like a wet smelly sock especially with your reply in there. If you would like to modify the subject threads title feel free especially if it might get me more responses. To be clear I did not intend to violate the rules and was simply trying to inject some humour into the board albeit not very good humour.

Oh yes by the way are there any takers on the original question?

To start with: I am not a scripting guru at all. In fact, I have no clue ;)

But the sample script looks pretty straight forward. Can't you just modify where they tell you to?

There are some really gifted guys in the LQ Programming forum. They already helped me a lot. Maybe you'll find help there. Ask the mods to move your thread (I think if you open another one they may not like it).

well it seems to include things like masquerading which suse is already doing.I believe I tried working off that script but my results were terrible but this may have something to do with setting up within the run levels.

I agree if a mod wants to move the thread I am agreeable to that otherwise I will repost in a similiar thread in about 24 hrs or so. abisko00 if you could clarify what section of the forum you mean that would be helpful. I will probably still need some help regarding its set up within the runlevels and rcd Hmmm abisk I think some of your threads on this forum have helped me out before so thanks again.

The forum I was refering to is this one:

I hope you'll find help!

thanks for moving this post although I guess it hasnt attracted much attention.
I purchased a network switch to solve a networking problem that was occurring with the bridge so I guess I dont need to script to put the bridge up anymore.
Still I could use some pointers on adding scripts to the various run levels anybody got some links for SUSE linux.

abisko00 08-08-2005 07:32 AM

I am not sure if this is the hint you are looking for, but as soon as you have a working script, you can copy it to /etc/init.d and use the YaST runlevel editor to activate it for certain runlevels. I think there are some hints in the sample script /etc/init.d/skeleton as well.

dasbooter 08-16-2005 06:49 PM

that certainly helps yes I have in the past messed with initd and foobared my system I think I understand that you need to use the runlevel editor is Suseconfig an option too after the changes?
