recovery tool coding


hi friends...
i want to develop 'data recovery tool' as my grad proj.
is there anyone who knows books or links/tutorial or sites
where i can find info. such as
1.data recovry methods.
2.basics of data recovery methods.
3.how to develop 'data recovery tool'
etc..

i have sufficient skill in c/c++.
and fairly good knowledge of operating system.

I've used Trinity Rescue CD. It's open source and has lots of tools - maybe take a look at it?
