RAD IDE for Client/Server centric application

Hi All!

First, let me start off by saying that I searched the forums and read quite a bit on C/C++ tools like Glade, Qtk and VDK.

From my own research, I've come across a development tool called Eiffel Studio. http://www.eiffel.com/

We have a 10-year old C/S app done in PowerBuilder that is in dire need of re-writing. Since the folks at Sybase don't feel the need to port their wares to Linux, I'm looking for a new tool.

When I first learned to program (Back in 1989), it was on a Unix system and we did everything in C. I've gotten spoiled with 4GL dev tools and would really prefer to stick with a higher level language than C or Java.

My question to the forum is this: Has anyone actually used Eiffel to develop any serious Client/Server applications? If not, what is the prevailing methodology for data-centric development on Linux.

Thanks!

-Mike

P.S. - While Eiffel Studio mentions cross platform, that's on my 'Nice to Have' list, not a requirement. We're tired of the Microsoft ride and want to get off now.

If you're fine with the price (and the technology lockup), than Eiffel is just fine. A coworker worked with it, and had no big complaints... After all, you are the one who does RAD, not IDE ;)
