python IDLE problem

I have installed python2.3 it is working great. However, I need to be able to print the program when it runs for a programming class I am taking. I have only recently swithed to linux and was using IDLE on windows. I have installed the "tools" dir and the "tkinter" dir, and all my versions are the same. When I try to run IDLE I get this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/idlelib/idle", line 8, in ?
import PyShell
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/idlelib/", line 19, in ?
from Tkinter import *
ImportError: No module named Tkinter

Any ideas on why this is happening?
