Python Curses under Windows XP?

Ok.. I had given up the idea of writing a portable [WinXP/Linux] network application in C in favour of doing this in Python. However, the application has to use ncurses. I've installed Python 2.5 on a Windows box; ran the command line version of the Python interpreted (i.e. not "IDLE"). and attempted to import "curses". This failed. Any ideas if this can be fixed (if yes, then how?)?

If I understand correctly (according to this), there's no working (n)curses port for Windows except Cygwin.
