well my favorite hookup on books for quite a while now has been O'Reilly ... i think everyone would agree that they are the best in the books dept.. i believe their main C++ book is 'Practical C++', not sure of the name but it is the chipmunk book...

If u have a bit of an idea if programming in win ,u should go for linux programming bible .It is from IDG publications Provides a bood all round description + help on a lot of topics
