Programming asynchronous I/O in Linux with C

Hello everyone.

I am trying to find some information about asynchronous I/O (and using it for programming in C language). Problem is that I can't find any good tutorials about this subject. I have tried to find documents or so from Internet, books, magazines, newsgroups and anywhere anyone would try. I have searched Mr. W.Richard Stevens' "Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment", "Unix Network Programming "(the one about sockets and the other about interprocess communications) but those brilliant books give only a scratch about asynchronous I/O.

I am totally lost. If somebody has knowledge about AIO or has read good tutorials please give me a hint.

There's a reason:
aio support under the 2.6 kernel would be less than POSIX standard.

Red Hat has some aio support in the enterprise version.

See for additional ideas:

Wow, that was fast...

Well, no wonder I can't make it work. I was trying to accomplish my visions with POSIX.1
I have to reconsider my goal and patch my kernel

Thank you
