Post Problem with THAI character

Hi all,
I have a java program that read a THAI text files and re-write them into another files. The problem is that the output files shows different character sets (encoding) and get larger than the original files.
Almost forgot, I run the program under RedHat Linux 9 with JDK 1.4.1_07.

Anyone please help,

nandipinto.
