problem in installing php


i was installing php5.3 on my system nd i followed d procedure

./install
after processing man lines it said


checking for xml2-config path...
configure: error: xml2-config not found. Please check your libxml2 installation.


then i tried

systemx@systemx-laptop$ sudo apt-get install libxml2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libxml2 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 232 not upgraded.


what should i do??

what should i do??
Try installing the libxml2 development libraries, which is what you're missing.

You can also try to install php5 via apt-get as well, and you might want to provide details when you ask questions. Like version/distro of Linux, etc. Saying "i followed d procedure" doesn't say alot, when we don't know where you got the program(s) you're working with. Assuming you downloaded the PHP5 source.

Hi,

You need libxml2-dev that contains xml2-config.
And why aren't you using apt-get to install php through your package manager?
