I didn't look at the code. You can read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_table . And if you get curious, then, for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuckoo_hashing .

Well, the code works very well, but my explanation was wrong. I'll look it up and post a better (correct) explanation.
