The question does not have to be directly related to Linux and any language is fair game.

Portable Visual Basic/Visual C++ (Like) for Linux and Windows?

Hello,

I would like find a programming language that offers the following:

- LINUX/WINDOWS: being available and programs compatible/working on both Linux and Windows platforms
- PORTABLE on W32/64: being portable (no need of installation needed admin/root), which could be (for windows) available on http://portableapps.com
- VISUAL: Looking like Visual Basic / Visual C++ (pic attached) so that one can create windowed-programs rapidly with buttons, and so on. (such as visual basic was)
- LIGHTWEIGHT (really this is important). Look how mingwgcc, gcc might be light
- LOWEND: C (or eventually C++) based (certainly not C# with all the needed stuffs to install e.g. mono...)
- SIMPLE: C language is very simple and comfortable to use. C like would be ok, or maybe sthg intermediate between C and Visual basic. Visual basic: within one day, you can do a lot of things. In C, not so much. The idea is that the learning user of this language could within several hours to 1 day already make a simple windowed programs.

Goal:
Create a simple, portable, windows with several buttons, a sort of excel sheet and few input for text.

I am looking forward to hearing you.

Thank you very much in advance for your advices.

At first I would say it is java, but java is not really lightweight. But I think your "arguments" are conflicting with each other, that is: linux/windows, portable, 32/64, visual and lightweight will not fit together.

if you want to try something interesting, pacal like
http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/

something basic like
http://gambas.sourceforge.net/en/main.html

there are other basic versions also

C++
FLTK, very light,
www.fltk.org, there is fluid for user interface design
here are some vid tutorials, a bit old but still useful
http://seriss.com/people/erco/fltk-videos/
this is the most C like, and it builds quickly,
and its for sure the most lightweight you can get

than there are the usual c++ ones, like widgets and Qt,
not so lightweight, but these frame works are more than just GUIs

if you include all libs, they all can be made portable

(1) lazarus is a pretty portable one ! wow. very nice and thank you.
http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Screenshots

(2) This ported operating systems are very wide. Even on win3.1.

(3) it even seems like it is portable in other word, there is a PAF : http://sourceforge.net/projects/lazarusportable/files/

(4) btw. what is this editor? http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/i...fp_raspian.png

(5) Pascal is nice but I guess it would be more profitable to the young beginner to learn somthg like C-Language. Isnt it something like lazarus (with this visual windowing) based on C language?

Best regards
