piping between backends

Hi,

I am quite new to this but it seems that on the right platform you can gather information from a program during use and pipe the information to another;

my problem -

At work numerous databases have been grouped as the company expands. Using a mainframe system (san and nas) they are all used with incorporated management systems by admin staff to create a case related file to the policy when needed which is opened, different tasks assigned, closed when complete.

They are all viewed through the same front end but users have to switch between the legacy sytems by returning to the index.

What i am interested in is if it is possible to gather the names of the fields in the front end (this is what i am not sure of how to do) and pipe them to a delimited file to be fed into another system which recieves user input in a formatted way.

I hope that makes sense!

Thanks
Rob

Try if one of these SQL-command's work for the database you are using:
Code:
desc table <table name>;
show fields from <table name>;
show columns from <table name>;
