PHPMyAdmin/MySQL editing problem

Hi there,

I have a database in mysql that has been working fine and I have been using PHPMyAdmin to look/manipulate it - I can edit all fields, browse all fields etc. I found that I needed to add a text field (syntax) to the db and so I did with PHPMyAdmin - worked fine.

The problem is that if I enter text in the Syntax field, I can not edit it after it has been saved to the table. When I choose the edit button for a record in the Browser view after it has been saved, I get the screen that allows me to do the edits. I then enter the edits I wish to make in the syntax field of the record and save the record. I return to the browser view and NONE of the edits that I made are written to the DB - the original text is the only thing there.

I can write an update statement in sql that erases the entire contents, and I can start again; I just can not make a small edit to that one field in the record. If I make an edit to another TEXT field in the record, it is written fine. For some reason this particular syntax field is not allowing edits, only deletions and rewrites. The table was created as the root and I am editing it as root user.

Has anyone else had this issue before? I am stumped.

Thanks.

After you add the field it should tell you the command it used. It should be towards the top of the screen right after you add the field. It'll probably say "ALTER TABLE [some other stuff]" - want to relay that output to us? Also the output of any edits that you try to perform. They should be listed in a similar location after you hit submit.

It's hard to know what's really going on without output from the machine.

That is the funny part. After I push the button to save and return to the previous screen it does not show an ALTER TABLE or UPDATE statement, It only shows a SELECT statement and acts as if nothing happened - which of course nothing did.

I was trying to save this text in the db (type=text) field:
&lt;$tag$attrib_list&gt;<br />&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Link_Text or Link_Image<br />&lt;/$tag&gt;

The odd thing was that if I just typed in a normal sentence and then went back in and tried to edit the sentence, it saved it correctly. It must be something in the characters that causes the problem.
