php to confirm a file was downloaded from server

Hey all,
Is there a way for the server (Linux ES4), using php to determine if a file was downloaded, and completed?

I am using header information to "push" a file to the user, when he/she clicks download, but I'd like the server to be able to know if the file was successfully downloaded (power failure, internet interruption, etc).

Seems like once I send the header info, thats it.

Any ideas.
Thanks everyone!

Don't your logs show the transfer size of the file?

the logs are the only source of wisdom here as Mr. C. indicates. If you want to be sure a particular user has downloaded a particular file you may create a temporary directory, move the file there and let that user download the file from there. Name the directory like the sessionid so you may have a distinct proof...
