Question PHP Improving performance with Mysql

Hey, I currently run my own web site and I already built a message board (you can see it here ) I like to say that I model it after this very message board, but its nothing too fancy and I still got a lot of stuff to add to is (moderation, edit your own msg, ect)

So far it supports these things
* Messages (duh)
* Attachements
* UBB or vBulletin like code... (ignore the spaces)
Code:
[ img]http://localhost/images/test.png[/img]
   [ url=http://www.google.com]Google[/url]
* some similes

so far most of the pages get rendered in less than a second.. not counting my piece of **** bandwidth

The problem concerns mean with the main page, the one that displays the threads and forums/sub-forums, it takes a while to do all those MySQL queries. It does at least two queries by itself, and about three per thread; and does some recursive stuff..

With that said what can I do to improve the speed of my MySQL/PHP page? Should I recreate the SQL queries? Database? PHP? or just live with it? (I can post some code if that helps any..)

Any ideas would be greatly appericated!

Thanks!

Well, one quick suggestion is to see if you can either modify the layout of your DB, or modify your queries, to cut down on the number of them you have to do on each page.

I don't know whether MySql supports it, but I've heard that you can improve performance greatly if you enable buffering .
