php getting environment variables question?!?!?
Hi all,
I am developing an internal application for the company that I work for using PHP5.0 and apache2.0. The basic idea is to allow a user to browse to the first page of the application, and hopefully obtain their login id like "joeb" and the interrogate our LDAP server for the rest of the user information, and groups that this user belongs to.
As there will not have to authenticate with the webserver as the application is totally internal, I can not use the $_ENV['REMOTE_USER'] variable as this has not been set. Is there another way that I can obtain the username from either Linux or Windows when the user has not authenticated with Apache?
The reason I am looking at this functionality is that I need to be able to implement some auditing and access control. Can apache link into LDAP so that it can handle the authentication such as how IE+IIS+AD all link together?
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
