php, debian and setlocale in french / russian

Hi All,

I have the below simple piece of code

setlocale(LC_ALL, 'fr_FR')
echo strftime("%A, %e %b",time());

What do I need to do so that this outputs in French or Russian.

I ahve also tried french, French, fr_BE etc...

Is this php specific, debian specific or what?

I am using debian sarge and php5.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
