php & gd problem

i have just recompiled php because i noticed gd didn't have jpg support. phpinfo() says that it now does, still when i try to use exif_read_data() i get
"Call to undefined function: exif_read_data()".
can someone please help me to understand what might be the problem here...

this is what phpinfo() tells me:
