I don't doubt it. But I just never took to Python. No particular reason: the relationship simply didn't work out. So, I mentioned the one I know something about.

I have a self-developed GUI with more than 2000 sliders in it - works just fine.

Perl as such has nothing to do with GUI, rather, it helps because of anonymity/closures, but the performance/quirks are mostly due to underlying C/C++ GUI tollkit.

If "statistics" are most important to you, then perhaps none of the above is the "right" answer. Maybe you need to use SAS or SPSS.
