Perl

Hi to everyone,

I realized that to use properly Rhel6 a programming language is needed. So i would begin with something like "perl for dummies" or similar, would you help me choosing the best guide for perl?

My experience about programming is low and only with java. I've been suggested perl because its affinity with Rhel.

There are many resources for perl in the internet, for example this: http://wso.williams.edu/wiki/images/...ash-course.pdf

Take a look at perlmonks http://www.perlmonks.org/ and the newsgroup comp.lang.perl.misc

If you're looking for solutions (modules) in Perl take a look at cpan http://www.cpan.org/

I too just started in Perl Programming.
3 days after I dived in, I have my first perl script! It's a boy!

Slice and dice /var/log/secure for intrusion statistics.

A Perl book of the hard copy variety should be considered, unless you can read documentation on-line, I can't.

documented here...
Welcome and enjoy.

Thank you to the two of you,

I will leave the post opened now just for further suggestions or details but I already began to read what you wrote about that.

Meanwhile, thank you very much!

Someone in your position should look for three books. The first for you should be a very introductory tutorial book, possibly even a 'For Dummies' (who ever wants to call themselves a dummy?) book. It should introduce both language-specific and general programming concepts such as program structure, variables and data types, etc. The second book, and you should consider it fairly early on, should be a reference book, with all of the language elements summarized and organized for easy look-up. This will be one that you can continue to use for as long as you use the language. Eventually, you will want to get into a intermediate or advanced tutorial style book, that probably contains some examples that are of significant size, and cover some larger concepts, and will teach you to really use the language and its unique features. There are numerous examples in each category; pick ones that are written in a style that you prefer.
