Parsing URL Vars via /

I have a client that has a special request. Instead of using the normal url variable qualifier ?. They want to use / instead. The reason for this is, I am writing a wiki/cms/crm and they would like to be able to pass around very simple urls. The whole point of it being is that instead of the url looking like this www.mydomain.com/?catID=<insert UUID here>&secID=<insert UUID here>

They want it to look the short names for their sections and categories. So it would turn into something like this. www.mydomain.com/products/sponges

Now the one thing they require is that if someone types in www.mydomain.com/products/sponges it takes them the correct section of the wiki as if they typed in the full url.

I have no idea how this is done.

take a look at mod_rewrite if you are using apache. Its quite complex but will do the job properly...
