i was googling trying to find an answer to my problem, but i didn't find anything (maybe i was searching the wrong way... ;-))

my task is, to write a shell script to control (the easiest way) some self-made hardware. for example, i have a flip flop that controls a ralais.

how can i control this through the parallel port? or is the serial port better? my server is running debian testing.

does anyone knows from a good tutorial or some information?


ps. i don't want to control a printer. i just whant to have some signal on a pin of the parallel port, and turn this signal on and off with a shell script,

I was playing around with the parallel port some time ago, and came across this tutorial on the different pins of the port. I'm sure this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it'll give you an understanding of how the port works with signals etc.
