Opening & Editing the Source Code


Hello everyone! plz give me steps and procedures to see the source code of linux (ubuntu or any distributions). what else do i need to install before i get to open or edit the codes. Please. Thank you.

Depends on the source code that you want to see.

You can download the Linux kernel source from www.kernel.org, and you get the code for most free software foundation programs from www.fsf.org. You can get the Firefox source code from www.mozilla.org, and the Openoffice source code from www.openoffice.org.

You will then need to install the compilers / development libraries. In Ubuntu, "sudo aptitude install build-essential". Then you can open the code in a text editor of your choice, edit the files and build again using the normal "./configure && make && make install".
