obtaining information about controlling devices

when you are going to write a driver for something, where do you go to get the specs that describe how the device is controlled? like what bits signify what and how to talk with teh device? with logitech i had to request some crap to be mailed to me, and with some other companies (packard bell for one), i can't find anything on their site about how their mice work. is there some site that lists a lot of useful informatin like this?

It varies by company. Some companies do not release any information and the only way you can develop a driver for their devices is to reverse engineer how the device works.

Be prepared. Create a LifeBoat CD.
