Net::IRC problem

If i try to connect to a irc server in localhost it all works fine , but when i try to connect my bot elsewhere it gives me an error:

bash-2.05b$ perl
Can't connect to! at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.2/Net/ line 203
Can't call method "add_handler" on unblessed reference at line 35.

The 35th line is:

$conn->add_handler('376', \&on_connect);

Any ideas?
