OOPS,(sorry TAB by mistake and it posted)

ok I need some help with a script. I have Linux doing all my routing and firewalling, it does great. except when I am away from it for a couple of days. All sudden it loses the link and it has to reset itself and find another IP address. It finds an address no problem but it loses the default gateway from its routing table. I want to create a script probably a cron script that if that was to happen it can put the default gateway back on the routing table. I was thinking try to ping yahoo and not getting a response with triggered it, or if anyone has any other ideas I will be very open to it.
