need site(s) w/ email standards

I am considering writing my own e-mail client, I think I can learn a lot from this experience, and I hope to create a streamlined interface tailored to myself specifically. I know there are a lot of options and that I would be re-inventing the wheel, but hey, Custom wheels are hot these days right?

Anyway rather than sitting here like a newb or lazy person asking someone to outline for me how to handle an e-mail message I am wondering if anyone can point me to the proper specifications, or papers, or any link that describes the format an e-mail message has, these are the things I am looking for, if you know one feel free to respond w/ an answer, but if you know of any sites that outline them you can save yourself some typing ;-)

1)basic format a message is encoded in (how parts are seperated such as subject, to, from, etc.

2)a message w/ both html and plaintext

3)attachments

4)embedded elements

5)multi-part messages

6) anything you think I missed :-D

Thanx in advance!

I just found this, it is good, but I am wondering if it is complete.

I just thought I would mention that konqueror has an rfc: shortcut.

If you enter rfc:974 in the address bar, for example, it will load that rfc text file from the internet.
