You didn't mention that, its your Final Project (Degree Project) or its just your semester Project. If its your Semester Project and you want to do it in C/C++ then again their are two things that you want to do it in Windows or Linux. As you are in Linux Forum so i think you want to do it in Linux C.
So in linux i think you also consider making GUI using QT designer. Now i don't know which field you want to go in. Like you can do a DIP (Digital Image Processing) project in C++ like Face Recoganization or something like that. If you want to go for something about Database then i don't think C/C++ is a good choice. If you want to go in core programming, then you can write something like a IDE kind of thing, Like Anjuta IDE for C/C++ for linux is good. Also check Magic C++ for linux. Very good Idea.
