I just installed suse 9.1 on my new computer, and i really like the look of it..its cool, great graphics, sounds, but there are some annoying things about it. I didnt have any install problems, all the drivers came up, sound cards and important things like that., but when I tried to compile a program, I found this : # bash: command not found...
S I thought this is wierd, a linux distribution without MAKE.
So Going to the Suse website, I was able to find the make RPM, and install Make into it so I could compile some programs, like SETI at home, and other stuff.
So then I went about compiling some drivers for a PCI card, and of course SETI at home :-) and here is where the fun begins involving compilation of some programs...
# make
Makefile:8: /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/build/.config: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target '/lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/build/.config'. Stop
Of , so that told me, I must be missing something in the file here that its showing in this error message.....
So I opened up this directory /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/
and there was "build" However, it was not a Directory, what it is is a small text looking file with a little yellow lock icon, on the lower right hand corner.....and when I tried to open it, i go the following error message:
"file /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/build/ doesn't seem to exist anymore.
and when i lookd at the properies, it was zero bytes, and Obviously has something to do with the way Suse Installs the OS, but I dont know what this file does, or I could change my makefile maybe, or try to find this file on another Directory But Its nowhere, and I never deleted it, It must be wiped By Suse after initial Install.
Anybody have any idea whats going on here?
