Lightbulb modification in tcp code

I am working in Suse Linux 6.3
I want to modify the code of tcp.
So I have put printk(for printing the kernel messages) statements in every functions of files tcp.c, tcp_input.c, tcp_output.c, tcp_ipv4.c in directory /usr/src/linux/net/ipv4. and then compiled and made new kernel. But i found very less functions r being called. Main functions like connect, accept are not being called. How can it be possible. Help me.
