memory monitoring in-process

My process does not leak between start and end, but I want to see some cleanup while it's running. I'd like to track memory use between some user events.

valgrind is giving me strange results on exit, but it's doing that with "ls -l" as well. Should ls really have leaks?
Can I trick valgrind to give me some data while my process is running? I want to know where memory is allocated.

I'd like to set up rrdtool to track the process, could use a sample script.

thanks for any ideas!

I suppose that would depend on your version of ls and
the libs it's using :} ... just because it's the umpteenth
incarnation of an age-old tool doesn't mean that it has to
be flawless ...

thanks for your response!

ah I see, loads of libraries called. I tried pwd, with libraries too, but almost totally clean.

I think I'm out of luck with valgrind if there's no way to trigger it to log between user events.

Could still use some assistance getting a script together for monitoring my process with rrdtool. Surprised there aren't more examples.
