Look for a tute called something like "Beej`s guide to socket programming" with google. its kinda basic, though..

if u want an jewel of a book, buy "unix network programming" vol 1 and 2 by w richard stevens..its worth its weight in gold.

If you use PERL, download Net::SFTP. Its very nice and easy to use!
Net::SFTP is a pure-Perl implementation of the Secure File Transfer
Protocol (SFTP)--file transfer built on top of the SSH protocol.
Net::SFTP uses Net::SSH::Perl to build a secure, encrypted tunnel
through which files can be transferred and managed. It provides a sub-
set of the commands listed in the SSH File Transfer Protocol IETF
draft, which can be found at

Hi,
Beej's guide is the best to start with. Can refer to more docs if required.
