Linux - background music, and foreground speaking together in python perhaps?

What I would like to do is to have a background music playing and some foreground speaking at the same time over the top of it. Like a commentry on a TV documentary.

Is that possible? What would I need to get that going please?

Thanks for any info.

I'd use ffmpeg or handbrake to mux the audio and video track together into one file. Is that an option, or do you have so-far-unmentioned requirements that make that not feasible?

For easy mixing of sounds in Python you might want to use the SDL library, with its Python wrapper Pygame. It basically comes down to just playing the two sounds at the same time.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will probably try SDL and pygame.
